POSITION: Associate Northleaf Capital Partners is offering the opportunity to gain experience with a leading private markets fund and co-investment team. Working closely with Northleaf's senior investment professionals, you will gain insight into the workings of the global private markets through meeting and conducting due diligence on many of the world’s leading buyout, venture capital and infrastructure firms and participating in the firm’s business development activities. You will be directly involved in a range of investment activities, including screening, reviewing and analyzing fund, co-investment and secondary market opportunities from around the world. You will also gain valuable business building experience as you contribute to the development of a rapidly growing global private markets investment firm by participating in the firm's business development initiatives and selected internal operations activities. Day to day, you will:- Conduct financial market, private equity and infrastructure industry research to support investment recommendations, business development initiatives, investor communications, and deal sourcing activities
- Conduct extensive due diligence (both quantitative and qualitative) of fund investments and direct co-investment transactions, including valuations of both public and private companies, and detailed analysis of investment manager track records
- Prepare detailed investment recommendations which describe the principal elements of each investment thesis, identify and analyze the key risks of each transaction, and summarize the strategic assessment, market research, competitor analysis and track record evaluation that support the investment thesis
- Work closely with senior investment professionals in researching, designing and developing new private markets products/mandates, including building financial and valuation models to support the business case
- Contribute directly to Northleaf Capital Partners’ ongoing business development and fundraising efforts, conducting research and analysis to support presentations to existing and prospective investors and investment consultants
- Participate in the management and monitoring of Northleaf Capital Partners' existing investment portfolio, including attending industry conferences and annual meetings and conducting quarterly portfolio reviews
- Contribute to ongoing business building initiatives (deal origination and deal flow management; fund manager selection and due diligence processes; portfolio and risk management tools and systems; investor reporting etc.)
- Liaise with internal Northleaf Capital Partners colleagues, external fund managers and investors to support ongoing investment, marketing, and client service activities
Qualifications
Candidates should hold an undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Mathematics or a related discipline and must possess a combination of leadership, strong financial/analytic capabilities, superb problem solving skills and excellent communications abilities. Both pre- and post-MBA candidates will be considered. Candidates must be adept at financial modeling, industry and economic research, and be able to work effectively in a team environment. Candidates must be highly proficient in Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Proficiency in Access, Capital IQ and other financial software applications would be an asset. Candidates with one to three years of work experience with a leading investment bank or global management consulting firm are strongly preferred, particularly those with international work or academic experience.
