Actively investing in secondaries since 2003

Over the past two decades, we’ve witnessed the investment thesis evolve from a purely opportunistic strategy – bringing liquidity to fund investors seeking to exit illiquid commitments – to a more constructive strategy, in which GPs and LPs alike leverage secondaries to fine tune their investments and better manage their portfolios.

Secondary investments have the potential to accelerate the pace and return of capital, mitigate the “j-curve” in the early years of a private equity program; enhance returns through re-pricing existing portfolio company investments; and facilitate access and informational advantages when coupled with a primary fund investment strategy and co-investments.

We invest across the spectrum of secondary investments, including:

LP-led secondaries - investments in which existing limited partners in a private equity fund sell their fund interests to secondary investors

GP-led secondaries - deals in which fund managers/general partners look to bring in new investors for strategic purposes

Continuation funds - extend the holding periods for existing assets, or potentially reinvest in businesses in pursuit of ongoing growth

Structured capital - includes preferred equity or fund financing to support growth or liquidity for investors in a company or fund
